Public Transport:

    The public transport system in Berlin is very well developed. The S-Bahn (surface rail) and the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe BVG transport you quickly and safely to your aims with 9 underground lines and 15 S-Bahn lines. Furthermore, there are 28 tram lines in the Eastern part of the city. Even in the night your mobility is unlimited - there are several night busses and trains.

    Berlin has three fare zones (see also the network graphic above): Zone A covers the city centre and is delimited by the S-Bahn circle, zone B reaches until the boundaries of Berlin. Zone C comprises the surroundings of Berlin (e.g. Potsdam, Oranienburg).

    According to your requirements you can purchase AB, BC or ABC tickets combining the respective zones. The regular tariff applies to adults, the reduced tariff to children aged between 6 and 13 years; for children under 6 years public transport is free. Tickets are available at one of the numerous BVG (underground company) or S-Bahn selling points as well as at ticket machines on the platforms. The machines are easy to use and the menu navigation is available in six languages (German, English, French, Spanish, Turkish and Polish).

Taxi:

    Taxis are numerous and available at all times (almost). Taxi stands can be found at all main stations and airports as well as outside KADEWE and hotels. Most Berlin taxi drivers speak English, but don't take it for granted.

    Taxi Fares: Start at € 2.50 and € 1.53 per km;
    Short Ride (Kurzstrecke): a € 3 ride for up to 2 km drive if you hail the taxi from the street.

Public Transport:

    Berliners enjoy cycling all-year round and the city accommodates cyclists by providing excellent cycle paths which isolate cyclists both from cars and from pedestrians. You are also allowed to take your bicycle on the U- and S-Bahn, just check which train compartment has the bicycle sign and if anyone happens to be standing there they will usually make way for you and your bike.

    Bikes need an underground ticket, too.

Berlin Culture:

    Berlin's cultural program is amazing: three opera houses, over 150 theatres and playhouses, over 170 museums and collections and over 200 private galleries. In addition, the capital is host to numerous top acts, artists and bands - every day nearly 1.500 events are on Berlin's cultural calendar.
